The instant I was reborn, I had a single goal: to gather my pack and prepare a massive feast. I ground two hundred and fifty kilograms of meat and called every wolf in the territory to join me in making meatballs.
This wasn’t just for fun. No, it was a form of vengeance. In my previous life, my stepmother, Odessa Wren, had betrayed me in the most cruel way. She had an affair with a secret wolf shifter and became pregnant with his pup. But instead of facing the consequences, she schemed. She caused a ruckus at the market, making a scene over some discounted eggs. During the chaos, she was shoved and fell, losing the pup she had so carelessly conceived.
Back home, she played the victim, sobbing as she told my father, “If it weren’t for Tempest dragging me to that market for eggs, I wouldn’t have fallen and lost our precious pup…”
I tried to defend myself, but before I could speak, my fiancé, Beta Peregrine Wolfe, stepped in with a cold fury. He shouted, “Tempest Ellington, I’m deeply ashamed of you!
“You’ve always been selfish, taking what isn’t yours, sneaking off to hunt at night, stealing from the pack’s food stores, and more. But this time, you’ve gone too far. You’ve caused Auntie’s loss for some cheap eggs. I can’t marry a woman like you. I’m calling off our bonding!”
My father, enraged by this accusation, lashed out. He slapped me repeatedly, then bound me and sold me to an old Omega in the village. I was locked in a wolf den, where I was left to die, tortured until my blood spilled and my life ended.
It was only after my death that I discovered the full extent of their treachery. My mate, who I thought was meant to bond with me, had been chasing after my stepmother all along. Our supposed \\\"bonding\\\" had been nothing more than a ruse for them to be together.
When I opened my eyes again, I was back to the day of that fateful market trip, where my stepmother would fake her miscarriage over those eggs.
Holding my fur cloak tightly, I couldn’t contain my grief as the memories flooded back. Then, my phone rang. It was Odessa. I answered, instinctively. Her voice was casual, as though nothing had happened. “Tempest, it’s almost New Year’s. I’m going hunting and won’t be home to cook. You take care of the pack and make dinner for your father and grandparents. Understand?”
Her tone was as if it was an order I had no choice but to obey. Before I could protest, she added, “Don’t tell your father where I am. If he finds out, he’ll chase me down again, and I won’t have a moment’s peace.”
“Alright, it’s settled then. You’re my good little pup. When I come back, I’ll bring you something nice!” Odessa hung up abruptly, rejecting my call before I could respond.
I tried calling her back several times, but the line was busy every time. Then it hit me. She’d blocked me. A chill ran down my spine as realization dawned on me. I had been reborn, sent back to the day my stepmother would stage the loss of her pup to cover up her affair.
In my past life, she had rushed to marry my father, believing he was an Alpha, hoping to become Luna and claim his wealth. But on the wedding day, she discovered the truth: my father was a Beta, and all the wealth he had was actually intended for me, not her.
Though disappointed, she had no choice but to marry him anyway.
That New Year’s Eve, she had called me with the same excuse as always, saying she needed to get some fresh air and wanted me to take care of the pack. I agreed, assuming it was a routine request, and didn’t return home until the evening to join the New Year’s dinner.
But when I entered the house, the atmosphere was suffocatingly silent. In the living room, my stepmother was sobbing uncontrollably while my father glared at me with hatred in his eyes. Tears streaked her face as she accused me, “Tempest, this is all your fault! If you hadn’t dragged me to that market for eggs, I wouldn’t have been crushed by the crowd and lost the pup…”
I was stunned, desperate to explain myself. “Mom, that’s not true! I was working all day, even stayed late! I never went to the market with you!”
Before I could show proof with my work records, Peregrine stormed over, ripped my phone from my hands, and crushed it under his boot. His voice dripped with disappointment. “Tempest, I’m done with you.”
“You’ve always been selfish, from sneaking off at night to hunt to stealing food from the pack’s stores. But this time, you’ve gone too far. You caused Auntie’s loss over a few eggs! I can’t marry someone like you. I’m ending our bonding!”
That was all it took for my father to turn on me. He finished his cigarette, his eyes burning with fury. “You wretched girl! You’ve cursed our pack by killing my son!” he screamed, sealing my fate.
In that moment, I realized how blind I had been to their deceit. But this time, I would not be the victim. This time, I would make them pay.
