“Alright, Amber, you’re the best. From now on, stick to watching comedies, okay? Hearing your laughter is the only thing that makes me feel alive.” He said it so casually, as if he hadn\'t just shattered my world.
I forced a smile, the kind that felt like a mask ready to crack. As I stood, tears silently slid down my face again. So, love could also be fake, huh? The joke was on me for being so foolish, for never seeing through his act.
I quietly reached for the bottle of milk on the counter, adding a small amount of sedative to it. Theodore never asked questions when I prepared his drink. He trusted me, which now seemed like the most ironic thing in the world.
I handed him the glass, and within minutes, he was fast asleep.
As I tried to find any evidence on his phone, it suddenly vibrated violently, and the screen lit up.I nearly dropped it.
Theodore had a special reminder for his Messenger. He always said it was for his \"Alpha,\" and he was worried about missing something important.
But now, a doubt began to rise in my heart. I used his fingerprint to unlock the phone and found a voice message from Luna Camelia.
I pressed play.
“Daddy, Mommy told me to tell you she loves the diamond necklace you gave her!”
The voice of a pup—innocent, sweet. My heart lurched. Could it be? My pup?
I mustered the courage to scroll through his messages, and the more I read, the colder my heart became.
Ever since Luna Camelia and Alpha Daniel publicly humiliated me at my wedding, I had severed all ties with them. Later, I vaguely heard that when Luna Camelia was pregnant, Alpha Daniel sent her to Red River Pack—the pack with the best obstetricians on the wolf continent, ensuring her pregnancy progressed smoothly.
Clearly, Alpha Daniel\'s work kept him too busy to be with her often, but they enjoyed flaunting their long-distance relationship online. It wasn\'t until Luna Camelia recovered after giving birth that they returned.
Meanwhile, I was mourning the loss of our pup, wasting away to nothing, unwilling to burden Theodore with my pain. He kept using business trips as an excuse, traveling between here and Red River Pack, only to visit her.
Theodore was a Beta, and I had always known how hard his work was. That’s why I never asked him to lift a finger around the house.
But in one photo I found, he was wearing an apron, clumsily yet earnestly making soup for Luna Camelia. Even with burnt fingers, he pressed on, unwavering.
He cooked for her, did her laundry, and walked with her and the pup under the golden sunset. In one photo, Camelia rested her head on his shoulder, portraying a blissful family of three.
There were countless more photos and videos, five years\' worth of sweet messages and updates, never missing a day. Theodore always responded instantly, always there for her.
No wonder he never let his phone out of his sight, even taking it into the bathroom. Not just to hide things from me, but to make sure he never missed a message from Camelia.
As a pup, I’d often dreamed of watching my own pup grow, but never did I imagine I’d have to watch someone else raise them. And then, by accident, I found Theodore’s message: \"Camelia, Amber had the baby. I’ll bring the baby to you soon, you’ll finally be a mom.\"
But me? I would never be a mother again.
I wiped away my tears and called my lawyer friend.
\"Please draft a divorce agreement. I need it by tomorrow.\"
“About the wolf trainer job you mentioned a few days ago… alright, I’ll go to The Eclipse Pack in five days.”
Theodore, if you love Camelia so much, then you can have whatever you want.
The next morning, Theodore woke up groggily. The moment he nuzzled my neck, I nearly snarled. “Forgive me, Amber,” he mumbled. “I’ve been too tired lately. I didn’t mean to fall asleep so quickly. I have to go to work now, but tonight, we’ll celebrate Mom’s birthday together, alright? After that, your husband promises to make it up to you properly.”
If he had said that to me before, I would have blushed and playfully called him a pervert. But now, hearing how sweet and intimate his words were towards Camelia, all I felt was disgust.
Once he left for work, I headed straight to the law firm.
